"Photography speaks a universal language."
This photograph of Nora Pien, Lena Nottaway's great great granddaughter, is a testament to the cultural survival of the Algonquin people for Barrier Lake, LaVerendrye Park, Quebec, Canada. Despite broken treaties and clear-cut logging these First Nation people continute to use the land as their traditions dictate.
Father Michael Bassano, a Maryknoll missionary from Central New York, volunteered in an AIDS hospital inside a Buddhist Temple in Loc Buri, Thailand. Many of the patients he cared for were dropped off at the Temple’s gate by relatives who could no longer care for them. Father Bassano called his seven years at the temple’s hospital his “Call to Compassion”. To learn more on the story, click here.
